2017's Hottest Fitness Trends To Carry Into 2018

As 2017 has officially been over for awhile now...

I want to reflect on 5 of my favorite fitness trends that helped me reach my monthly fitness goals.

1. Body Weight Training

Being a former gymnast, body weight training has been very popular in my fitness career. Body weight training can be anything from squats, to lunges, to planks, or even push ups. Not only is it a great workout, but it is also affordable. No equipment needed and it can be done anywhere.

2. Wearable Activity Trackers

With all of the technology in the world it was about time we made wearable technology. From Fitbit to an Apple watch there are many different options. I personally use a Fitbit Flex. This device gives me just enough information to track my fitness progress. This past year I really focused on making sure I hit 12,000 steps a day, and that alone made a huge difference. You don’t need to run 6 miles a day to hit your fitness goals. Little milestones like hitting 12,000 steps a day is still rewarding and can make a big difference in your metabolism.

3. Group Training

From Orangetheory, to barre classes, to yoga classes, group training has been a really popular fitness trend. Group training is so much fun and it is also affordable. Before signing up for a gym membership in your area be sure to check out all the free classes offered in your area. Getting fit for free is the best way to get fit, so grab your girlfriends and go hit the barre studio down the street.

4. Yoga

With work and school and other obligations, life can be a little fast sometimes. Often a lot of us get caught in work and family and worrying about pleasing others before we focus on ourselves. I took 2017 as a year to really focus on myself. I picked up yoga and now I can’t stop. It is a great way to start your day and it is also a great thing to do before you go to bed, to wind down and really become relaxed. A few of my favorite classes that I would recommend are hot yoga and Vinyasa. I am looking to try out aerial yoga in 2018.

5. Outdoor Activities

With Camelback Mountain basically in my backyard, it is hard to not love outdoor activities. Depending on where you are on the globe the opportunity for outdoor activities is endless. A few of my favorite outdoor activities of 2017 have been kayaking, rock climbing, and hiking. With these kinds of activities comes an amazing full body workout with great views at the end.

Midwest to Southwest

I'm Jorey, and I'm 21 year old Ossian, Indiana native. I started my college career out in Muncie, Indiana at The Ball State University. I absolutely LOVED my first three years on campus, but I got engaged to be married going into my last year of school and moved halfway across the country with my true love, and fiance, to Mesa, Arizona.

I'm finishing my classes online and fulfilling my adventurous soul out in the Southwest part of the country. From hiking, to climbing, to just soaking up the dry desert air at the pool. You name it and I've got it here. Excited to share all of my wonderful experiences in the Phoenix and surrounding areas with you.
